Part of the Roc-A-Fella empire founded by Jay-Z and Damon Dash, Rocawear was launched
in 1999, during Jay-Z's Hard Knock Life Tour. Based around streetwear
staples like knit tracksuits, dark denim, leather bomber jackets,
and fur-lined hoodies, Rocawear was originally targeted to young
men but now includes a women's line as well. The label has been
popularized by superstar rappers like Jay-Z, Method Man, and
DMX, but Dash insists that Rocawear is keeping it real. "In
our music, we talk about what we are," says the 30-year-old,
Harlem-born music mogul. "We want to make clothes that help
paint that picture."
