If You’re Going to Buy One Thing Today, Make It the Sonos Playbar Speaker

We know that Cyber Monday can be overwhelming, so in the interest of saving you time with just the deals you’d actually want, our editors will each be selecting just one great discounted thing that you should really spend your money on. Technically, the Strategist’s Camilla Cho isn’t an editor, but she is a deal hunter whose experience with the Sonos Playbar is very convincing.

I used to envy those people who had surround-sound speakers set up in their living rooms, where movies would seem more dramatic, and even the worst music would actually sound great. Given how much music and TV I consume in my apartment, I considered setting up my living room like my audiophile friends until I realized how complex and pricey setup would be (we’re talking thousands of dollars).

Then I discovered the Sonos Playbar — one sleek speaker that delivers quality sound for anything I play: sports, concerts, and movies all sound impressively cinematic. (Turns out that internal speakers on most TVs actually suck, which shouldn’t be a surprise given how super thin TVs are these days.) Even when I’m not watching TV, the Sonos Playbar also lets me wirelessly stream music from my iTunes or Spotify library (or practically any streaming service); it’s hard not to crank up the music with such clear, quality sound.

The setup could not be easier (it took me five minutes), and while the Sonos app is not my favorite, I plan to connect the Sonos to my Amazon Echo so I can start telling Alexa what to play. For well under $1,000, the Sonos Playbar has been one of the best home electronic devices I’ve ever purchased. I appreciate even just watching Netflix on a whole new level.
