Long seen as merely a healthier shortcut for preparing snack foods, air fryers have, in recent years, started to be taken a little more seriously. Not only is that because they can be used to cook and brown all manner of proteins, vegetables, and baked goods but also because they’re incredibly convenient: They cook food considerably faster than a regular oven, don’t really need to preheat, and will never make your kitchen (or whole apartment) horribly warm.
The downside, however, is that they can be a bit of an investment. Which is why we’re particularly glad to see that this Prime Day, one of our favorite models — Instant Pot’s Vortex Plus six-quart fryer — is $60 cheaper than its regular retail price of $160.
When we interviewed her for our recent guide to the very best air fryers, Jenny Tschiesche (the author of an air-frying cookbook) praised the Vortex’s durability and size as well as the handy window that allows chefs to see exactly how their recipes are doing as they cook. In fact, after testing plenty of air fryers, she says the Vortex is the one that has stood the test of time in her kitchen: “With some of the others, after a few months, the lining starts to come away or you see scratches. But this one has lasted two years without damage.” Tschiesche tells us her own family uses it to roast vegetables, reheat buns, and make chicken nuggets, salmon, sweet-potato fries, and flapjacks, but with six different capabilities — frying, roasting, broiling, baking, reheating, and dehydrating — it’s more a question of, What can’t you use it for?
