Whether you’re adventuring in the Catskills or Financial District, Patagonia’s clothes are a great choice. The sustainably minded outdoor brand makes some of our favorite puffy jackets, raincoats, and fleeces, all of which are ideal for fall and winter weather. We’re big fans of its backpacks and other travel accessories, too.

While Patagonia’s gear is typically rather expensive, there are bargains to be found if you do some digging. That’s especially true today, because the brand launched its Winter Sale this morning, and I found plenty of rain jackets, fleeces, and puffers for 50 percent off. Check back here often, because I’ll be updating this list a couple of times per month.

Women’s clothing

A packable puffer for up to 40 percent off that’s made from entirely recycled materials.

Six outdoor experts recommended Patagonia’s Capilene base layers to me when I compiled our guide to the best women’s long underwear. This warm top is designed to be thrown over a tank or tee.

Camilla Cho, SVP of e-commerce at Vox Media, owns two of these Houdini jackets for two reasons: They’re very waterproof and very packable.

Winter is here. Have you sorted out your fleece situation yet?

And I know what I just said about winter, but this is too good a deal on Baggies not to include. These are our favorite shorts for swimming and other summer activities.

Men’s clothing

Our fitness writer Jeremy Rellosa says the Nano-Air is the most versatile outdoor jacket he owns: “I can wear it for easy hikes in cool weather or use it as my main insulator or heavy layer on winter days around town. And it’s just downright cozy.”

Men’s Baggies are on sale too. We especially like these for use as swim trunks.

Happily, both Baggies inseam lengths are discounted, if you’d prefer something a bit longer.

Kids’ clothing

In our guide on how to shop at Patagonia, senior editor Winnie Yang says you can feel the quality of this hoodie “in the zippers and see it in the stitching for the baffles and seams.”

And she says her son has played in the snow while wearing this bunting, staying dry and toasty. It also makes bundling kids up easier: “My youngest hates getting dressed or changed, so if we can just drop him into an all-in-one outer layer, that cuts down on the time we spend struggling to wrestle him into his clothes.”

Children’s Baggies are on sale in every single color right now. I like yellow best.

Bags and accessories

A cute and useful hip pack for hiking or travel that Sam Sanders counts as one of his favorite things.

Patagonia’s Black Hole duffel has made pretty much every one of our best-in-class travel bag lists — from weekenders to carry-ons. It’s water-repellent and abrasion-resistant (and it’d also make a nice Valentine’s Day gift for the frequent traveler).

A simple day pack that’s ideal for day hiking and biking. Bungee strapping on the front makes it easy to keep an extra layer of clothing in close reach.

Patagonia’s Black Hole daypacks are a Strategist staple, and for good reason. For me, the stretchy water-bottle holder is an underrated design feature: It’ll fit a fat Nalgene or skinny Hydroflask.

The Strategist is designed to surface useful, expert recommendations for things to buy across the vast e-commerce landscape. Every product is independently selected by our team of editors, whom you can read about here. We update links when possible, but note that deals can expire and all prices are subject to change.
