In the wake of the utter devastation inflicted by the earthquake in Haiti, the efforts and contributions of people everywhere are crucial. If you’re looking for ways to help, try these organizations:

The U.S. State Department Operations Center has established a hotline for Americans seeking information about relatives in Haiti: (888) 407-4747.

The department cautioned that because of heavy volume, some callers may hear a recording.

• Clinton Bush Haiti FundIn response to a request from President Obama to help with both long- and short-term needs in Haiti, former President Bill Clinton and former President George W. Bush established the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund (CBHF).

The American Red Cross is on the ground in Haiti.

Spirit Airlines is offering 5,000 “free spirit” miles for donating to the Red Cross.
Choice Hotels is allowing members to use their points to donate to the American Red Cross Haiti relief effort.

• AmeriCaresCNN’s Ann Curry suggests donating to AmeriCares, who are “gearing up to take in medicines to Haiti,” she says.

• International Medical CorpsSanta Monica-based International Medical Corps says it has an emergency response team providing medical care outside the general hospital near the presidential palace in Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince. Members of the team are also visiting hospitals around the city to assess their needs. The group is accepting donations on its website imcworldwide.org.

• United Nations World Food ProgramThe United Nations World Food Program is the largest UN agency coordinating the response to the Haiti earthquake. Donations can be made at www.wfp.org.

• Yele HaitiHaitian-born Wyclef Jean is asking his fans to donate to the community service organization he founded in Haiti, Yele Haiti. Donations can be made at the site, or automatically by texting YELE to 501501 to give $5. More information about Yele Haiti here.
