What kind of singing and dancing do you do?
I have a variety show at Joe’s Pub called “The Anna Copa Cabanna Show.” It’s in the seventies-TV style of Sonny and Cher, Solid Gold, that kind of thing. It’s a mix of music and dancing and leotards.
How did you come up with that?
I grew up in Australia watching those shows, and I was kind of obsessed with being a showgirl. You could sing songs, do covers, and I loved the spectacle of it.
Your countryman Hugh Jackman is also a big fan of the variety-show format. Is it an Australian thing?
Absolutely. Australians really love dramatic music. Meat Loaf is huge, seriously. I couldn’t get away from Meat Loaf growing up. It was all about the drama, maybe because it’s so mellow in Australia otherwise.
