THE BIG NAMES

Crewcuts
J.Crew’s children’s line had only been available at the Prince Street store. Now there’s a stand-alone, 2,200-square-foot shop for the adorable mini-preppy clothes, plus junior Barbour jackets, Hunter Wellington boots, and vintage children’s books. (1200 Madison Ave., at 87th St.; 212-348-9803.)
Duane Reade
Our local, ubiquitous drugstore has started a chainwide overhaul that includes physical improvements (wider aisles, bigger windows), new categories (sandwiches from Zabar’s, yogurt parfaits by Queens purveyor Bimmy’s), fancier skin-care lines (Laroche-Posay, Vichy), a packaged-goods line called DR Delish (trail mix, cookies), and a new logo. The store at 200 Water Street (at Fulton Street) has already gotten the full treatment. (Multiple locations.)
Bloomingdale’s
The flagship is putting millions into renovations right now. First the men’s department was redone; now the main floor’s beauty area is being overhauled, with much calmer results. There’s even a “dry-styling salon” (no running water) for blowouts and updos at the Bumble & Bumble area. (1000 Third Ave., at 59th St.; 212-705-2000.)
Costco
In time for Thanksgiving, the discounter opens its first Manhattan location, in the East River Plaza mall. Finally, local access to barrel-size shampoos, cases of seltzer for $4.89, and surprisingly tasty rotisserie chickens. (Pleasant Ave. and 116th St.; no phone yet.)
MEN’S

Odin is also expanding its existing store and relocating Den, its “concept” store that showcases one under- the-radar label at a time, from the East Village to Lafayette Street. Den will next feature the men’s line Nice Collective. (199 Lafayette St., nr. Broome St.; 212-475-0079.)
Den’s old spot will be taken by British designer Oliver Spencer’s first U.S. store, featuring his classic and workwear-inspired line. (330 E. 11th St., nr. First Ave.; 212-337-3095.)

Sneaker fetishist Asio Highsmith’s shop will feature sneakers as art, as well as off-the-rack kicks from Y3, Alexander McQueen, Puma, and Saucony ($75–$500). After answering a 100-question online quiz, shoppers will be directed to their ideal shoe, possibly a customized pair by a local artist. (45 Willoughby Ave., nr. Adelphi St., Ft. Greene; 718-858-8755.)

MISCELLANEOUS
Limelight Marketplace
The Episcopal church–turned–notorious club will have a third incarnation as a three-story shopping mall, to open before the holidays with at least 50 stores, including an apothecary, a music store, and a toy store. (656 Sixth Ave., at 20th St.; 212-226-7585.)
Greenlight Bookstore

SPECIAL PROJECTS
Anna Sui for Target
The eternally hip designer’s line for the mass retailer was inspired by Gossip Girl; the high-collared, long-sleeved shift dress, for example, was created with Blair Waldorf in mind. (139 Flatbush Ave., nr. Atlantic Ave., Downtown Brooklyn; 718-290-1109; Sept. 13.)
Victor Glemaud for Earnest Sewn

+J: Jil Sander for Uniqlo
The German designer’s minimalist sensibility merged with the Japanese chain’s practicality. The result: crisply tailored men’s and women’s clothes, some starting at $20. (546 Broadway, nr. Spring St.; 917-237-8811; Oct.)
Pendleton With Opening Ceremony and Bloomingdale’s
The plaid-centric brand is celebrating 100 years this fall with creative collaborations, including a clothing line with Opening Ceremony and in-store shops with Bloomingdale’s. (Opening Ceremony, 35 Howard St., nr. Canal St.; 212-219-2688. Oct.)
