West side Democratic congressman Jerrold Nadler hasn’t faced a primary opponent in fourteen years. But now Adam Sullivan, a 38-year-old actor and director, is challenging him because the Judiciary Committee—Nadler chairs its Subcommittee on the Constitution—won’t hold hearings to investigate the impeachment of President Bush. “I can’t stand watching Congress fail to act in the face of this executive and his crimes,” says Sullivan. “I’m very disappointed. He’s suggested that Bush deserves impeachment, but he gives a parade of excuses.” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other leading Dems have ruled out impeachment, so why pick on Nadler? “He’s my congressman,” says Sullivan, who filed petitions with the Board of Elections on July 10. A rep for Nadler says he’s focused on civil rights and the health effects of 9/11.
