1. Thunderbird Powwow
Some 40 American Indian nations will compete in an authentic tribal-dance tournament at the Queens County Farm Museum as an emcee explains the significance of each performance and lucky onlookers are pulled into the dance circle. Tribal art and traditional foods will be for sale.

2. Aqua Yoga
Like their parents on grown-up cruises, kids can learn the fundamentals of yoga aboard the bridge deck of the tall ship Peking, at the South Street Seaport Museum. Expect an hour’s worth of poses, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques, along with folk tales of the sea.

3. MoMA Summer Celebration
Free workshops at P.S. 1 will teach kids to make their own life-size comic strips, vertical sculptures supported by balloons, and art from recyclables—with all materials provided by the museum. Live music and an “artistic” wading pool and sprinkler, too, so bring bathing suits.

4. Collect A LIttle Magic
Follow a storyteller around Wave Hill’s lush grounds in a nature search for bewitching nooks and enchanting objects throughout the woods and gardens. Afterward, kids create their own nifty nature containers to house their discoveries.

5. The Games People Play
For the sports-frenzied, Central Park’s newest free walking tour recalls the good old days of baseball on the lawns, sidesaddle horseback riding, and the romance of ice-skating and boating on the lake. There’s also a morning series of run/walk races for kids, sponsored by the New York Road Runners.
