Carlisle goalkeeper Gabe Breeze was kept busy by the Newport attack
Aaron Hayden capped a thrilling comeback as Carlisle United grasped a precious win at home to Newport County in their bid to avoid the League Two trapdoor.
The visitors romped into a two-goal lead when Kieron Evans rounded off an incisive move, before Bobby Kamwa claimed a sensational second - cutting in from the right before curling a long-range strike over Gabriel Breeze into the far top corner.
Carlisle pulled a goal back before half-time, when Stephen Wearne set up Georgie Kelly to slide his left-footed finish into the far corner, and Kelly struck again early in the second half to bring Carlisle level, scrambling home from a corner.
Then with six minutes remaining, Hayden scrambled home the winner when he reacted quickest after Joe Hugill's free-kick had rebounded off the post.
The Blues remain bottom, but Mark Hughes' side are now eight points from safety with only five games remaining.
Newport County head coach Nelson Jardim said:
"Being 2-0 up and losing in that way, in the way the goals happened, I had to ask a couple of questions and I was caught up in that in the tunnel.
"The game, yes we started very well, 2-0 up, but second half - and not only this game - when the game becomes physical... we always fall short.
"Today was another game of that, with set plays and all that and we knew it was going to be a tough game as they were fighting for their lives, but once again we fell short when the game becomes a battle."
