If you’re like us, you’ve probably wondered what famous people add to their carts. Not the JAR brooch and Louis XV chair but the hairspray and the electric toothbrush. We asked K-Pop star Jessica Jung — the founder of lifestyle brand Blanc & Eclare, who was recently named Revlon’s newest global brand ambassador — about the candles, tea, and notebook she can’t live without.
I got mine at a bookstore in Korea, but you can probably find one just like it anywhere. It’s so cute. It’s covered in sequins, and when you run your hand from top to bottom, they change to a different color. It’s very eye-catching. I always get compliments when I pull it out. I use it for everything, from ideas that just pop into my head to scheduling to designing to lyrics — it has all my thoughts. I used to do all that on my phone, but recently, I’ve preferred writing in a notebook because it’s easier to flip through the pages to refer to something, and it’ll stay with me forever. I can keep all my used notebooks as little souvenirs.
I didn’t really use anything to take care of my voice until recently. I was in the U.S., working with some producers, and they told me this tea is really great for singers and for taking care of your throat, which of course is very important. It’s kind of weird at first because it makes your throat really slippery and slimy. It took me a while to get used to because it’s like nothing I’ve ever tasted before. It’s very herbal and just really weird. I can’t say I enjoy it, but I can sing much better and go higher, way past my normal limits, after drinking it. It’s been really helpful.
My aesthetician recommended this to me. She was like, “You should really get a vitamin C serum,” I guess because my skin needed an extra boost of vitamins and brightness? It’s very light, but I feel like it’s really enriching at the same time. We can’t really travel now, but I used to travel a lot for work — I was constantly on a plane — and my skin became super, super dry. So I really focus on hydrating my skin, whether it’s with a serum or a cream or a sheet mask.
I have a lot of candles — I don’t even know how many. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but I’m really into Diptyque. This one is kind of sweet, but also a little bit musky at the same time. I can never decide which type of smell I like better, so this is kind of a good middle-ground option. I burn a candle right before I take a bath in the evenings, to set the vibe.
I don’t actually remember buying the selfie stick, I just found it lying around my office. I think my manager bought it for me, but I never asked for it. Still, it’s definitely been useful. I use it for my YouTube videos. I prefer to use my phone instead of a camera because carrying around a camera and setting it up and using a tripod is just kind of annoying. With my phone, I can record something instantly, and the selfie stick gives me more control, especially if I’m walking around filming myself.
I actually don’t run on it — I just walk fast with a really high incline. It’s kind of like I’m hiking? My trainer told me to do this, because I don’t like running and I kind of have a bad ankle as well. So this workout gives me similar benefits to running — like it really makes my butt and the back of my legs work — but it’s not putting any stress on my ankles or knees. This treadmill is really compact, which is what I love about it. Some of them are really bulky and take up too much space — this one doesn’t. I use it about twice a week maybe.
Collecting wine is a big hobby of mine. I have a wine cellar at home that has about 50 bottles from all over the world. Drinking wine is something relaxing for me, just like taking a bath, and I really enjoy trying different wines. This particular wine is much too expensive to drink every day, so I only drink it as a treat or on a very special occasion. But I love it so much — it’s 100 percent Merlot, which is my favorite, and it’s extremely smooth and very fruity. It’s a little bit nostalgic for me too. I visited the vineyard in Ornellaia, Italy, and it was really magical. It’s run by this whole family.
Everyone always asks me about my hair. It’s naturally super straight. I want curly hair though. I’m so jealous of everyone with curly hair — it’s so beautiful to me. Since mine is straight, I will curl it and style it so it has a little bit more texture and isn’t so flat. My shampoo is from Shiseido, and it smells really good. It’s extra-hydrating, and I think it makes my hair look really clean and nice.
I use this primer as the last step in my skin-care routine, right before I put foundation on. It gives my skin a very natural, radiant look. And I feel like foundation just goes on better after I put this on. I can use it no matter what kind of makeup look I do. It’s a very versatile product.
